"Unlocking the Cage" is an excellent 2016 documentary that gives us an intimate look at the work of a group of dedicated attorneys who seek to break down the wall that separates humans from animals.

After 30 years of struggling with ineffective animal welfare laws, renowned animal rights attorney Steven Wise and his legal team, the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), have found a novel way to protect animals. They are making history by filing the first lawsuits, in the U.S., that seek to transform an animal (elephants, cetaceans and nonhuman apes) from a thing with no rights to a person with legal protections. Please join us if you can!

Event will be held at the home of Don and Ginny Robertson, 517 Talbott Ave. in Lutherville, MD, 21093. It's the first house on the right after turning right from Morris Ave. onto Talbott Ave. Suggested donation is $5.00, with the proceeds to benefit the Nonhuman Rights Project. Please RSVP by calling 410-252-3043. Use the same number if you need help with directions. Vegan snacks will be provided.

Veg Summerfest is a terrific, annual educational conference, presented by North American Vegetarian Society, on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Veg Summerfest features world-class speakers and facilitators and the very best educational opportunities on veg/vegan lifestyle. It gives us a chance to connect with friendly, like-minded people, and enjoy a nice variety of wonderful vegan cuisine! The event just gets better and better each year! We are expecting another record-breaking attendance of perhaps 800 or more. The hard part for most attendees is in deciding which classes to attend. There are 6-7 available presentations from which to select each daylight hour. We have the option to register for full conference or just the weekend sessions. Call Earthsave at 410-252-3043 or email Baltimore@earthsave.org if you would like to carpool. Hope to see you there! http://vegetariansummerfest.org/
