January 2008

Hi Earthsaver!

Here’s all the latest info from the Baltimore chapter of Earthsave.

What fun, and what a treat it was for us at the December potluck dinner when cooking instructor Cindy Blum allowed us all to sample the goodies she prepared with her blender. Thanks so much Cindy!

For our first potluck dinner event of the year 2008, we will have a special Meet & Greet social gathering. The first one we did, back in August, was so popular that we decided to schedule such events regularly, perhaps every 6 months. We will again include an exercise or discussion designed to help us get to know each other better. And, as always, there will be awards for the favorite home prepared dishes.

Our first actual event of the new year will be a gathering on January 6th of the Veg Meetup Group in Towson at Kathmandu Kitchen, where we will continue talking about how we answer some of the most common questions we face regarding our lifestyle. If you can suggest a question that has given you some problems in the past, all the better. We’ll see how others might handle your “troublesome” question.

We have lots of cool things in mind for a wonderful new year, including our third annual Earth-friendly Food Choices special speaking event, which will again be held at the Women’s Club of Catonsville. The date will be April 8th, and we’ll have the full details and speaker lineup for you soon.

In February, we’ll have an opportunity to hear from one of our favorite nutritional professionals, registered Dietician Mark Rifkin, who will give us the latest info on some of the unappetizing and unhealthy things that meat products often, or routinely, include.

The new issue of Earthsave News features a great article by Bruce Freidrich called Vegetarianism in a Nutshell. I think it gives the most concise summary of the best reasons to consider vegetarianism that I’ve seen. You have most likely seen it if you’re an Earthsave member. But if you’re not and would like to have a copy, send $2 and I’ll mail you one.

Hope that the holiday season will be a special one for you, and hope to see you soon!

EARTHSAVE Jan 12th DINNER EVENT, from 6- 9 pm, will feature a Special Meet and Greet social event, with an agenda geared toward getting to know your fellow Earthsavers a little better. The evening will also feature cooking awards and perhaps a few surprises.

Or you may attend without bringing a dish for a $12 fee ($10 for members). Please give 2 days notice if paying for dinner. Monthly dinner/lecture events are held on the second Saturday at the Learning Center/Yoga Studio of Your Prescription for Health, 10210 S. Dolfield Rd. in Owings Mills.
